Shoe review - Puma Toddler Speed Cat
Forget Dr. Karp, I want to have the coolest kid on the block. So 
when I found these awesomely hip Speed Cats from Puma at Zappos, I knew I must have them for Shoebaby. Orange is the new black this year, for toddler boys anyways. Shoemama tried on a pair of Pumas recently at Nordstrom and thought that they were really comfortable and flexible.
Unfortunately, the Speed Cats are not as flexible as you'd think they would be. The sole is pretty thin, but they are also somewhat stiffer than our beloved Preschoolians or See Kai Runs. The Pumas also make that tap-tap sound associated with not-so-flexible shoes. Don't get me wrong, I'm keeping the Speed Cats because they are definitely more flexible than a lot of other fashion sneakers out there. Plus the dark brown is awesome for little boys, like Shoebaby, who like to play in the mud.
Despite my so-so review of the shoes, Zappos offers really awesome customer service. The shoes arrived within three days of placing the order and they offer free returns and exchanges (for real, no silly restocking fees).

Wow! I just bought exactly this pair of Pumas for my son in blue and white. I was very impressed by them, considering the alternatives -- and they seem to fit quite a bit slimmer than the Preschoolians, which I like (my son has very wide feet and tends to look like he's wearing small boats on his feet with Preschoolians).
True, they're not quite as flexy as the Preschoolians, but they're pretty close to the RJBs. I went to the store to try some New Balances for him, and I was shocked at just HOW thick the sole was. He looked like he was wearing heels! I'm very pleased with these Pumas, and I was able to buy them right out of the store.

Yes, the Pumas do seem to fit a bit narrower than Preschoolians. These probably won't work for very wide feet. My son has relatively wide feet, and they were okay. The laces are helpful because you can really open them up.
Jamie, could you let us know which store you found them in? I haven't seen them yet here in SoCal.

Yep, I bought them at a specialty shoe store in Northfield, Illinois (just north of Chicago) called "Fit to be Tied." Not much help, I know!
My son also has super wide feet (always X-wide in Stride Rite and New Balance, his father wears EE width at New Balance) but these are so soft on the outer part that his flippers fit right in. As you say, the laces are great as opposed to most of the Preschoolians' slip-on varieties.
