They are too small, but I thought he could wear them just one more day. So I put on his See Kai Runs, which totally didn't match his outfit (going against Shoemama's fashion sense), but foot comfort and health have to come first. Plus keeping Shoebaby happy makes Shoemama's day much easier.

I did really love their sandals last summer, so I have told them I hope they iron out all this trouble so I can order again by summer. I haven't seen or found any sandals I'd like to buy for my daughter that are as nice as the preschoolians ones (that don't cost $70 or something)

Yes, you're right some of the Preschoolians alternatives are WAY more expensive, like Primigi or Naturino. See Kai Run is actually lower priced, but obviously much less selection. The search continues....

Also, my daughter has a pair of Soft Star shoes and they are great. They look better on than they do in pictures so don't be afraid to try them (personally I think they fit better than Bear Feet and cost much less)
Why don't we trade our used shoes? One might get more use out of another's outgrown pairs of great shoes. What do you think, shoemama? We can list them on ebay for 99 cent with buy it now so we don't have to pay too much for listing and final value fee. And add the price you want to get to the real shipping.
Say, someone wants to sell her like new pair of preschoolians for $10, she lists them for 99 cent Buy it now price or legular auction, and make the shipping $10+$3.85=$13.85
And she leaves the link on this blog.
That way, the transaction's safe with a small fee, I think.

My older daughter has had several pairs of Naturino and Primigi. But their soles are not as flexible as Preschoolians. I buy them because the design is cool, goes well with her outfits, and material and craftmaship is nice(made in Italy) I don't buy them for my 9 month old. And I learned that there are so many nice American shoes besides Stride rite. Those Pedipeds and Pedoodles are soooo cute! I can't wait to buy spring/summer shoes for my baby.

J.Y -Interesting idea about the shoe exchange. Of course, shoe manufacturers say that shoes get molded to one's feet and therefore shoes should not be passed down. But in reality, we all know that a shoe that has been gently used is almost as good as new. I'll post an entry about this idea and see what kind of response we get.

Question for those of you who order shoes online...How do you make sure to order the correct size? I've found that different brands run differently so my kids wear one size in Stride Rite, another size in some other brands, etc. With preschoolians, I used the measuring device but they still were small by the time they arrived. Since they were for my twins that don't walk yet, I kept them instead of dealing with returns. However, I wanted to get some See Kai Run shoes for my 2 1/2 year old. How do you make sure you get the right fit when ordering online? I hate to ship things back and wait for returns! At the same time, shoes that don't fit correctly aren't any good! Sorry, I forgot to add that the See Kai Runs seem to run pretty true to size (maybe slightly big). Shoebaby was wearing Preschoolians size 22 and I ordered a size 6 and it fit him the same. Of course, he's in a growth spurt right now I have to buy all new shoes in size 7s but it gives Shoemama a great opportunity to do some product testing. :)

For shoe of you who have twins, don't forget to ask for a twins discount. You never know they may say yes. I asked one shoe company, besides PS, and they said they'd give me $5 off per shoe. I'm waiting to hear from some others.
Regarding the fit for SKR - if you look at the size chart on their website there is an inches to shoe size conversion so just use a ruler to measure your child's foot and find the right size there.
Most shoe sizing charts say to leave 1/2 inch toe room, too, so don't forget that when measuring. The measurements are for the shoes' inseam, and you wouldn't want your child's toes right up against the end! (Darn it, I really like Preschoolians' see-through window & measurement system!)
Has anyone else tried the Gucio shoes available at www.toddlertreads.com? I bought these for my son a while back, and we all loved them. There is only one style, but they are VERY cute. Very flexible sole. My son is not a good walker, and could walk in these as well as he did in his preschoolians.

I am the manufacturer of Bear Feet. One reason they are more expensive than other shoes is because we make them in the US paying livable wages (for our area) and we use leather tanned in the US or Europe because environmental standards are enforced. I can count on one hand the number of US shoe makers left.
I have been in contact with the Gucio designer and have a few pairs of his shoes. They are well made and true to his concept of a flexible walking shoe. I think they are ugly in a funky cute sort of way - a great boys look. He also supports local craftsmen in Poland. Both our companies are about the same ideas.
Recently someone copied our line but the craftsmanship is dreadful and they quickly fall apart. They cost about $15.00 less. So, sometimes you get what you pay for and sometime you don't.
Trading shoes is a good idea as long as the wear pattern isn't too distinctive. Afterall, the reason to buy shoes that mold your child's feet is so that they are shaped like your child's foot and not someone else's.
I think See Kai Run makes very fashionable shoes for boys - that's a hard job - fashion for boys. Bear Feet tends to avoid the boys market.
One last comment, all companies will at one time or another make someone unhappy. It isn't possible to be perfect.
I got my boy some preschoolians because they were recommended for the fit (chubby feet is an understatement). Well, they fit okay, but those footbeds are some kind of gnarly synthetic and they made his feet STINK! I took the footbeds out and the smell problem went away, but then the only gimmick left is the little window, which I don't think really adds anything in terms of comfort or style. I'm thinking of returning the second (as yet unworn) pair I got.

I just found your blog, unfortunately due to my CRAPPY experience with Preschoolians. I found the company by doing a Google search for toddler shoes and thought I'd hit the jackpot- affordable AND cute?! CH-CHING! Sadly that option did not come without a hitch. So far I have been waiting a month for my exchange/return to go through, meanwhile 3 1/2 weeks later I still do not have the friggin replacement pair of sandals I ordered. I plan on sending them back when I get them and NEVER ordering from them again. Maybe by summer I will have the 100 dollars back I spent on 2 pairs of shoes I don't even have in my posession.
As far as recomendations go, Robeez have some cute new hard sole shoes this season and I plan on ordering from them again, as I have before without incident. Livie and Luca also have awesome shoes which are pretty affordable and no headache. Unfortunately neither site has quite as many options as Preschoolians but I'll go for that before I opt for the hassle ever again.

i have been trying to order from them for 2 months and they keep telling me their computers are down..in this day and age it doesn't take 2 1/2 months to do an update..it takes a weekend.
